When it comes to roof snow removal look no further than Pro Home Construction. This may sound as simple as shoveling the snow on your roof or even placing salt on it yourself. However, this is NOT the case. Attempting to remove snow yourself from your roof may in fact cause more damage.

Shoveling your roof yourself is dangerous and without the right tools you may end up damaging your roof or hurting yourself. Also, salting your roof is not a good idea. Salt is extremely corrosive and can damage your roofing, siding, gutters, and downspouts. The runoff liquid is poisonous and will kill foundation plants and more.

Pro Home Construction is your one-stop provider for professional roofing services provided by technicians that have the knowledge and experience to get the job done right the first time. We work hard to provide the highest quality roofing you can depend on at a fair price.

We are also experienced in all types of roofing systems including asphalt shingle, flat/rubber, cedar shake, metal roofs, bitumen, TPO, Thermoplastic Polyolefin, EPOM or rubber, and more!

Mother nature can throw anything at us at any time. However, in New York we know that snow will be a sure thing. Most people may not know, snow can cause damage to your roof. Here are some guidelines for when you might want to have the snow on your roof removed.

  • Snowstorm

One thing that we know for sure about living in NY is that there will be a snowstorm. Some worse than others. However, if a snowstorm has dropped more then 6 inches of snow then we suggest having the snow from your roof removed.

  • More than 6 inches on roof

As you all know snow can accumulate over time. While we do not always get 6 plus inches, we do often get storms back-to-back. If there is more then 6 inches on your roof, then we suggest having the snow removed. If you are unsure about how much is on your roof, then we suggest play it safe and give us a call.

  • Flat Roof

If your home or business has a flat roof, we will always suggest having the snow removed. This well help prevent damage and drainage issues. With flat roofs on large buildings extra weight can cause sagging and real damage to your roof.

  • Leaking

If it has just snowed and you are finding leaks inside of your home or business, we suggest giving us a call. This could be something very simple, nothing at all or a leak that needs to be fixed ASAP. However, before any work can get done the snow will have to be removed.

  • Sagging

If you notice that your roof is sagging, then we suggest having the snow removed from your roof. The extra weight can cause your roof to sag and cause damage. This would be an emergency if you find yourself in this situation, we suggest giving us a call ASAP.

If you allow the snow to sit on your roof for an extended period it can cause several issues. Such as:

  • Ice Dams

Ice Dams can cause damage to your gutters, get under your shingles and leak into your house. While they might look like the perfect Instagram post. To us they are a huge threat to your roof and to your home. If the snow from your roof is not removed these ice dams can build up and case some significant damage.

  • Sagging

As we said above. Sagging can be caused from the extra weight of snow building on your roof. If this snow is not removed ASAP, it can cause damage to the structure of your roof.

  • Salt

We often found that people add salt to their roofs. Why were not sure. However, what we can say for sure is that salt is extremely corrosive and can damage your roofing, siding, gutters, and downspouts.

  • Leaks

When snow melts it turns to water. This is something we know. However, this can cause an issue for your roof. With the extra weight of the snow on your roof and the snow melting it can cause this water to get into your roof and cause some real damage.

  • Attic Condensation

When your roof is handling all the snow from the winter build up, especially ice dams, there is a chance that just below the roof your attic ceiling will have excessive condensation. This can lead to several issues including wood rot and mold.

We hope that you found this information helpful and informative. If you would like more information or have questions, please feel free to give us a call! We would love to be the company you choose for all your roof snow removal needs!
