TYPES OF EXTERIOR TRIM
You’ll often hear various terms used to describe the exterior trim on a house. While most of these terms are Latin or Old English, they can be confusing to the uninitiated. Some people might not know the difference between a rake that is attached to the purlins of the eaves, and dentil molding that blends into crown headers. Architects and builders will use these terms to describe the appearance of their work. Likewise, exterior renovation specialists will use the terms to describe the various parts of a home’s exterior.
INSTALL NEW OR REPAIR EXISITING EXTERIOR TRIM
Whether you choose to install new or replace existing exterior trim depends on several factors. The style and architecture of your house may play a role in your decision, as does the condition of your home’s siding. Ultimately, however, your home’s exterior serves two functions: to protect the interior from the elements and to add visual appeal. While different types of exterior trim are designed to serve different functions, you should know the differences between them and what’s most appropriate for your home.
